When you are thinking about what’s in the future for your parents, for many, that may be moving out of their homes, into some sort of facility. This could be an assisted living facility, an independent living facility, a nursing home, a hospice facility. Wait, what do those terms even mean? Does your family even have the budget for all of this? Where do you even start to find a place?
When I started on my journey, I didn’t even know that these professionals existed. I did all the research on my own. And it took a very long time to research the places, do the tours, see if they had openings and see if it was a good fit and all of that. What a Senior Placement Specialist will do is they will meet with your parents and take an assessment and see what their needs and wants are, find out what their budget is and then get to work to see what is available and provide you with some matches. You then are narrowed down with just a few options that are actually available, rather than going down the list, doing all the research yourself. You can go to the top choices and see from there.
You may be thinking that this sounds too good to be true and that this service sounds very expensive. How do they get paid? Well, depending on the specialist, they do get paid in different ways, some of them will work for a fee, but others will work for free but then take a fee from the homes they place the residents in. At first I thought that it wouldn’t be good to be free as they would only be pushing certain homes, but then again, if the resident were not happy, then they would look bad too. It really is a win-win option all around for everyone if you are able to find someone with a good reputation and who does not work for a fee.
