Living in a care home can be a lonely life. You are away from your family the majority of the time. They come and visit during the holidays, if that and it may only be for a few hours. Now, during the pandemic, those visits have been shut down for months. The loneliness and depression are really starting to sink in.
A couple of posts came across my Facebook feed that I thought was too good not to share here. The first was an Assisted Living Home in Canada where the residents posed with a whiteboard with their names and addresses asking for Christmas cards! They were too cute and it certainly was effective! It got over 9K shares and it looks like they’ve gotten hundreds of cards so far. So with that, you can either send cards to them or perhaps reach out to a facility near you and send some cards to residents in your area?
The next is a program from Home Instead and my mother actually used their services in Arizona. They have been doing this program since 2003. Seniors can ask for gifts by way of a virtual light bulb. It’s connected to Amazon. You simply click on your zip code and find people near you. You can see what they want, order the gifts online and then it goes to them.
Please try to make a difference in some senior’s life today!
